City of Toronto's Election Accessibility Plan for 2010
Dear Agencies, Organizations and Citizens,
We are pleased to share with you the City of Toronto’s Election Accessibility Plan for 2010 and introductory letter.
The attached plan shows our commitment to making our election services accessible to everyone.
We hope you will read the plan with interest and provide us with your feedback through the methods we’ve provided on page 3 of the plan. This plan will be improved and updated as new opportunities are identified or become available.
There are many initiatives outlined within the plan however we would like to highlight just a few examples:
- Advance Vote locations will have New Accessible Voting Technology. This will increase our ability to serve electors with a variety of different needs.
- Equipment Demonstrations and Presentations. We would welcome the opportunity to work with you to get the message out to others. Please give us a call at 416-395-1335 or email us at AccessibleElections@toronto.ca to discuss specific needs.
- Web site
http://www.toronto.ca/elections/accessibility/plan.htm
This site highlights accessible information and provides instruction videos on how to use the new technology to vote.
As a means of education we have sent this email out to some agencies who provide services to children and youth recognizing that although there may only be a few families with children who are voting age it is still worthwhile to promote the focus on accessibility.
We invite agencies to consider circulating this e-mail in a variety of ways:
- Send it out through your email distribution
- Post it on your website
- Announce it in your newsletters
- Share it when you meet with families
Through a consultative process we are making every effort to inform the public of the City’s focus on accessibility and we will continue to do so with your help. Please pass it along to anyone you feel would benefit.
Thank you for taking the time to review our plan, visit our web site and consider booking a presentation or equipment demonstration.
We look forward to connecting with you soon.
