Next steps in Huronia, Rideau and Southwestern Regional Centre settlements
ARCH has just learned that the next steps in the Huronia Regional Centre, Rideau Regional Centre and Southwestern Regional Centre class action settlements are taking place today, Monday February 24, 2014 and tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25, 2014.
Monday is the Fairness Hearing about the Rideau and Southwestern settlements. At this hearing, lawyers will tell the judge why they think she should approve the Settlement Agreement. People who have objected to that agreement will also be able to speak. The Fairness Hearing for the Huronia Regional Centre already happened. That hearing was on December 3, 2013.
Tuesday is the Fee Hearing where the judge decides about the legal fees and disbursements for the Huronia, Rideau and Southwestern settlements. The lawyers will propose sharing costs among all 3 settlements, based on the dollar amounts for each settlement.
The hearings are taking place at 330 University Avenue, on the Fifth Floor in Courtroom 5. This building is on the West side of University Avenue, just North of Queen Street. The front door on University Avenue is not wheelchair accessible. The accessible door is at the back - off the walkway that is a continuation of Simcoe Street. Please allow extra time there, because an attendant must operate the stairlift.
The closest subway stop is Osgoode. The closest accessible subway stop is Queen's Park, a few blocks north. This is just a few blocks from the Toronto downtown bus station at Bay and Dundas.
