Submission on the Independent Review of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

December 4, 2009

The government of Ontario appointed Charles Beer to conduct an independent review of the effectiveness of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, as required by this law.  On November 10, 2009 ARCH held a public meeting with Mr. Beer to enable ARCH and members of the disability community to participate in the independent review.  ARCH also provided a written submission to Mr. Beer, in which we advocated for greater harmonization of the accessibility standards, the need to incorporate principles of universal design into the standards, and the establishment of enforcement mechanisms and an individual complaint process to ensure effective implementation of these laws.
