Submission to the Ministry of Community and Social Services on the Draft Regulation under the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities

August 1, 2009

In this submission ARCH comments on the first regulation under the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities, the law that will reform the way in which the government delivers services to people with intellectual disabilities. ARCH made recommendations for strengthening the regulation and clarifying the criteria that will determine who is eligible for these services. In particular, ARCH strongly recommended that the eligibility criteria be changed so as to be more reflective of a social model and human rights approach to disability.
