Full Time – Permanent

ARCH Disability Law Centre is a specialty legal clinic, primarily funded by Legal Aid Ontario, dedicated to defending and advancing the equality rights of persons with disabilities across Ontario.

ARCH seeks a permanent full-time experienced lawyer dedicated to social justice and disability rights to join our legal team. The Summary Advice Lawyer will be expected to fulfill the duties of an ARCH staff lawyer as required, with a primary focus on delivering direct legal services through our intake and summary advice programs. The successful candidate will be expected to provide summary advice and referrals, and limited legal services, on a wide range of legal areas to individuals with disabilities across Ontario. The Summary Advice Lawyer will also participate in the preparation and selection of test case litigation, will provide guidance and supervision to ARCH’s law students, will present public legal education workshops to client communities, community partners, and the legal profession, and will contribute to the writing of ARCH publications and materials. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to ARCH’s mandate, knowledge of social justice and systemic barriers facing disability communities, and extensive experience providing legal services to persons with disabilities. Travel throughout Ontario will be required.

Required Qualifications:
• Lawyer member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
• Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering related legal services to equity seeking communities;
• Demonstrated ability to manage a heavy caseload independently;
• Excellent communication and de-escalation skills; and
• Knowledgeable in a broad range of areas of law related to disability and poverty law, including human rights law.

• Experience working in a community legal clinic;
• Prior knowledge and experience working with disability communities;
• Fluency in French, American Sign Language (ASL) and/or langue des signes québécoise (LSQ);
• Knowledge of disability organizations and community resources, and personal experience with or knowledge of disability issues and/or low-income and culturally diverse communities;
• Ontario Driver’s License.

The annual salary range is $75,000 to $85,000 depending on experience, with health benefits.
