The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities concluded its first review of Canada in 2017. The Committee’s findings and recommendations about Canada’s implementation of the CRPD are called the “Concluding Observations”. Canadian Civil Society Parallel Report Group Submission to UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Disabled persons organizations (DPOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and human rights commissions can submit reports to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as part of its review of Canada.

In 2017 an ad hoc group of 16 disabled peoples organizations and supporters, including ARCH, submitted a report called the Canadian Civil Society Parallel Report Group Submission. This group represented a cross-section of person with disabilities in Canada, including persons with mobility disabilities, persons who are culturally Deaf, deaf and hard of hearing, persons with vision disabilities, persons labelled with psycho-social and/or developmental disabilities, persons with dementia, women with disabilities, children with disabilities and Indigenous persons with disabilities.

Submissions from Other Organizations

Other disabled persons organizations, civil society organizations and human rights commissions also participated in the UN Committee’s review of Canada by sending submissions. These organizations include the Canadian Human Rights Commission, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, Autistic Minority International-Canada, Autistic Self Advocacy Network Canada, Canada Without Poverty, Disabled Women’s Network of Canada, Egale Canada Human Rights Trust, Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children, Income Security Advocacy Centre, Mad Shadow Report Group, Ontario Network of Injured Workers Group, and The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action.
