ARCH Consultation on AODA Health Care Standard Recommendations

Dear Community Member,

Recommendations on a new Health Care Standard under the Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) has been released for public consultation.  You can find the Recommendations  here: Consultation: Initial recommendations for the development of health care accessibility standards

If you want to respond directly to the government, there is a feedback form on the government website above. Submissions must be received by August 11, 2021.

ARCH Disability Law Centre will also be making submissions on the Health Care Standard Recommendations, and we are asking for your help.  We want to make sure your thoughts, experiences and concerns are included in our submission on this new Standard.  Meaningful and accessible health care is critical to persons with disabilities.  Access to health care can support independence, community inclusion and dignity. It is therefore important that this Standard address all barriers persons with disabilities have when trying to access health care services.

ARCH will be hosting 3 consultations on July 14th so we can gather information from you.  You can participate in the following ways:

  1. Register to join one of our Consultations on Zoom, online or by phone on July 14, 2021. AMENDED: Only those who register to attend an ARCH consultation will receive the Consultation paper.
  2. Contact us if you want to participate in a different way at general@arch.clcj.ca

On July 14th, ARCH’s consultations will be held from:

  1. 10 am – 12 pm Eastern Time
  2. 2 pm – 4 pm Eastern Time
  3. 6 pm – 8 pm Eastern Time

The maximum number of participants in each group will be limited to 20 on a first come basis, for both online and phone participants. We will keep a waiting list of people who are not able to join any of the sessions on July 14 to determine if another date should be scheduled.

We encourage participation from members of all disability communities, including Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQ2S and others who may face additional barriers to accessing health care services.

To register for one of these consultations, please use our online form  by July 8th by using this link: Registration for AODA Health Care Recommendations Consultations July 14 2021.

Please let us know if you require any accommodations, including American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART), or interpretation in other languages.  If you do not have internet, please leave a voicemail message for Theresa by phone at 1-866-482-2724 ext 2229.

Please circulate widely.

We look forward to meeting with you on July 14th!
