Submission – ARCH’s Submission on the Government of Canada’s Accession to the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, 2017

ARCH’s submission to Review of Canada’s Accession to the United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The Optional Protocol (OP) provides two procedures by which the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities can oversee implementation of Convention rights: a complaints procedure for individuals on violations of their CRPD rights by Canada, and an inquiry procedure for investigating serious or widespread violations. Following a review of Committee decisions, ARCH supports Canada’s accession to the Optional Protocol.
